Chap Goh Mei also call Lantern Festival is the Chinese festival celebrate on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar year in the Chinese calendar. It is not to be confused with the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also sometimes known as the “Lantern Festival” in locations such as Singapore, Malaysia. During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night to temples carrying paper lanterns(simplified Chinese: 兔子灯; traditional Chinese: 兔子燈; pinyin: tùzidēng) and solve riddles on the lanterns (simplified Chinese: 猜灯谜; traditional Chinese: 猜燈謎; pinyin: cāidēngmí). It officially ends the Chinese New Year celebrations. (Wikipedia 2008)
Last night, our MYFer is having wonderful dinner at Siong Shi’s house. Approximately 25 people had came to have dinner with us. Normally purpose of celebration will gather us and communicate with each other, more than just sit alone or hiding in quiet room to eat. Talking and communicating are quite important in all kind of dinner. Mankind can’t survive just alone, imagine you live to 70 years with just yourself only, it will be quite meaningless with that kind of life. Even Adam also granted a wife by God to live with him.

I believe everyone had gone through the blessed and happy Chinese New Year start from last few week. The Ang Bao given by parent and relative and friend indeed the blessing from them. As a child, they hope we can grow up quicks. As for teenager, they hope we can have good education. As for junior adult like me, everyone will hope that find a good wife and marry. When i looked unto this, i began to think about our father’s blessing start from the minute when we had born to this world until now, no words can be described and expressed but just to say thank you father. And i hope that when i am blessed, hope to share it among brother sister and friend of mine.
Last time, our church is having the celebratrion of Chinese New Year event which brought to you by our MYF group. With the teenage and youth and church committee member coming to join us. Together with us, Pastor Yao kah Fah share to us little message. With the rise up of China in Science or Economy, the Chinese Image around the world have brought up. Everyone care what happen in China, especially in this year, World Leader one after another pay a new year call to their domestic local Chinese. Even some one said that 21st century is the Chinese’s Century.
Pastor recalled himself at the United State air terminal few years ago, no Mandarin announcement been broad casted, but when he went to United State past few month. He heard after the English announcement, it is Chinese! When we think it is impossible that the Chinese will become international language, that’s it now.
“Where have sunlight, there will Chinese exist” told by Pastor, where his experience was he thought that Africa may not exist any Chinese. But he soon amazed that even somewhere in Africa, where Chinese staying there. The main point Pastor wanna to bring out is past a decade, the gospel spreading works was done by western missionaries. Now, it is different, God has his plan for Chinese. We stay at foreigner country, learn their language and culture, eat their food, mean we are easy to fit the environment. In other words, we Chinese is good missionaries. But, where, when, how to start? Pastor leave a space for us to think about it.
Pastor also emphasis that we methodist youth shall think open-minded or have innovative thinking. If the church wanna have change, we shall follow the change of society or environment and upgrade ourself. In another words, synchronize our church influence with society, because the main purpose of our church is “to develop people into faithful followers in Christ”. We shall upgrade our church organisation structure or operation to attract more undergraduate to serve our Lord. Pastor quote the idea of Rick Warren “If Change, there will be success or failure, but without change we still at the same place“. Even for the commercial organisation also pay attention to Innovation, so how about Church?
We as a Christian shall upgrade ourself and play important role in society, instead of staying in fortress. We are blessed to be children of God, high educated, profession shall contribute to our society just like Sir Issac Newton, Sun Yat Sen (孙中山), John Lock, Abraham Lincoln etc. They are Christian and stand in society to contribute.
P/s: Pastor Yao Kah Fah is pastor of Setapak Methodist Church,he is thinking Open-minded and very humor when he bring our his sermons.
